“… Peru is the third most violent country against women in the world.”
I bet these numbers make you wonder what is it like to live in a place where this is allowed to happen. A society where your integrity is worth 2 or maybe 3 years in prison (if she was hurt enough to prove it even happened).
Leaving home gave me the chance to experience detox. It showed me how living in fear, becomes a habit after a while.
Let’s face it; nobody can stress over this 24/7 so we choose to believe it is NOT that big of a deal.
We choose to believe that if only ONE asshole said something disgusting to you on your way to work, then it is not that bad. “At least, he didn’t touch you. ”
We start to believe that it is OK to be afraid. Too afraid to dress as you goddamn please, because someone might see it as an excuse to cross the line.
This video saddened me because even when it’s considered “initiative”; it is nothing but a publicity stunt. How could it change a thing? when there is no actual punishment for these actions. How can it? really… while the country remains THEIR perfect habitat; or as I heard earlier this week “a country of machos… ruled by machos”.
